Pulse: A&E: The Play’s the Thing

The curtain’s up on Philly’s first-ever new play festival

Through the 18th, our city’s best thespians — Abigail Adams, Sara Garonzik and Seth Rozin, to name a few — take to local main stages with nine world premieres. This collaborative effort by the Theatre Alliance has brought together an eclectic and accomplished group of writers, producers and actors to showcase original work as well as new takes on a few old favorites. But the fun doesn’t stop there: Audiences can take part in panel discussions in which playwrights divulge creative secrets or sit in on play readings. And if all this fresh entertainment has got you feeling a little thirsty, Nodding Head, at 1516 Sansom Street, will be brewing up a festival-inspired glass of New Play IPA for only $5 a pint.

Philadelphia New Play Festival, February 8th through 18th; times, locations and ticket prices vary; 215-413-7150, theatrealliance.org.
