LOCAL NEWS: Two Accused in Maya Young Murder Set for June Hearing

Tiffany Floyd and Jose Pena, accused of murdering transwoman Maya Young, are scheduled to appear in court.

Tiffany Floyd, 24, and Jose Pena 19, who have been indicted on charges of murder and conspiracy in the deadly stabbing of transgender woman Maya Young, are scheduled to have preliminary hearings on June 7th at the Criminal Justice Center. Both Floyd and Pena have been denied bail and remain in custody.

COLOURS celebrates 25 years of advocacy at the William Way Center on Wednesday.

The COLOURS Organization, an HIV/AIDS advocacy group founded to serve LGBTQ African Americans in the greater Philadelphia area, kicks off its 25th anniversary year with a forum at William Way Center on Wednesday. The event will feature a panel discussion on how the organization has historically addressed the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the innovative strategies the organization is planning for the future. “Now more than ever is the time that our community needs to come together to address this crisis in Philadelphia and around,” says COLOURS board member Lee Carson. “We’ve been at the forefront of this issue for over 25 years, and this forum will allow a new generation to know the work we continue to do.” Panelists at this free public event include COLOURS founder Michael Hinson, Jr. and current executive director Mark Anthony Wilson Jr., as well as Nathaniel Pace. The event will also pay tribute to long-time COLOURS supporter and early president of the board Michael Wickliffe, who died recently.

Equality PA and Liberty City LGBT Democratic Club political endorsements are officially out.

LGBTQ advocacy groups Equality PA and Liberty City LGBT Democratic Club have recently announced the candidates they support in the April 26th primary. Both groups have endorsed incumbent Larry Farnese for state Senate, as well as Sekela Coles and incumbents Brian Sims, Michael O’Brien, Donna Bullock, and Mark Cohen for the state House.
