East Passyunk Is Getting an Old-School South Philly Sandwich Shop

Junior's Beef & Pork will serve roast beef, roast pork, and sausage — but no cheesesteaks.

Yet another restaurant is coming to East Passyunk. But rather than a swanky BYO or a trendy hotspot, it’s an old-school sandwich place.

Junior’s Beef & Pork is slated to open in January at 1840 East Passyunk Avenue, right next door to Stargazy. Owner Geno DeJesse is a South Philly native; he also has a Junior’s location in Wildwood, New Jersey. The East Passyunk outpost will have 10 to 15 seats and do mostly takeout.

The menu at Junior’s will include classic south Philly sandwiches built around roast beef, roast pork, sausages, and meatballs with toppings like roasted peppers, long hots, broccoli rabe, and sharp provolone on Liscio’s rolls, plus salads and fries. DeJesse says that he might expand the menu a bit for the new location, but cheesesteaks won’t be included.

The news marks the first time since the strip’s revitalization that a business offering a casual menu drawing on South Philly’s sandwich roots has opened on East Passyunk — as much as we love French BYOs, it’s hard to believe that the bustling restaurant row has gone this long without a hoagie spot.
