Celebrate Barcade’s 4th Anniversary Today
People always ask me to name my favorite bars in Philly. But because I live in East Philly (AKA Camden) I don’t have an urban neighborhood bar to default to and I find myself jumping around a lot instead of repeat visiting. But there is one bar that I end up at more than most and that’s Barcade.
There’s almost always something amazing on tap to drink, and it arrives in the proper glassware. The bartenders seem to be getting friendlier and a little less “more hipster than thou”–especially the women. And while I don’t play the video games, most of my friends do. Add in the fact that it’s low-maintenance and a quick drive home and you have the makings for an ideal late-night spot.
So the good news is, today is the day to thank Barcade’s owners for choosing Philly as one of its locations because they’re celebrating their fourth anniversary. Remember four years ago when Barcade’s arrival marked a transition between “You want to go out where? In Fishtown?” and the ensuing Piazza at Schmidt’s-type suburbanification of the neighborhood? Those who value the neighborhood’s infusion of investment have Barcade partially to thank for that (and Will Reed, too, of course, but this story isn’t about him).
So starting at 2 p.m. today, you can toast to the bar with the following amazingness on draught.
Avery Twenty Two Anniversary Ale
Bear Republic Tartare
Bell’s 30th Anniversary Ale
Brooklyn The Companion 2011
Bruery Autumn Maple 2013
Cape Ann Chili Stout
Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Dogfish Head Namaste
Flying Fish “Barrel Aged” Exit 3
Founders Imperial Stout 2013
Free Will Blood & Guts
Left Hand “Nitro” Wake Up Dead
Manayunk “Habanero,Lime” Moneyman IPA (cask)

I know, right? You can see they’ve been holding on to some stuff, and it’ll probably be a good night to meet some beer reps, as I expect a lot of them to pay their respects. Happy birthday, Barcade!
