This Weekend: Cape May Craft Beer And Crab Festival

One of the best fests of the summer.

As a Maryland girl, there’s almost nothing I like better than craft beer and blue crabs. I can literally spend all afternoon picking crabs and washing them down with a cold craft can. In fact, today’s my birthday and that’s exactly what I’m doing RIGHT NOW.

So I have deep admiration for the planners at Cape May’s Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities, who had the good sense to plan a festival around these two culinary prizes. Tomorrow (Saturday), they’re hosting the Craft Beer & Crab Festival from 11 am to 8 pm on the grounds of the historic Emlen Physick Estate. It’s free to come in and walk around, though crabs, crabcakes, steamed shrimp, pulled pork, hot dogs, fresh-squeezed lemonade, wine, vodka drinks, and beer from Cape May Brewing and others, all carry a price tag.

But there’s plenty to do while you’re munching: Live music, vendors, food trucks (The Cow & the Curd, we know you’re reading), and an “old-fashioned Victorian circus” with jugglers and the like. Bring a picnic blanket and throw some kids and friends in the car and get your crab on. CBS New York has ranked this fest among the five best of the summer, and they’re not even from Maryland.
