More Beer For Old City: 2nd Story Brewing Co. Opening This Month

2nd Story Brewing Co. (117 Chestnut Street) is finally opening its doors in Old City on Tuesday, October 21st.

As a craft brewery and restaurant serving farm-to-table pub cuisine, 2nd Story Brewing Co. will introduce a new collection of classically inspired ales and lagers as well as foods created with regional, seasonal ingredients by working closely with local producers and purveyors.

Much of the 2nd Story Brewing Co. team has some kitchen and/or producer time behind them. Owner Debbie Grady? She’s a working farmer who owns Tilted Barn Farm in Pottstown. General Manager Ken Merriman is a restaurateur who owns District Riverton Bistro in Riverton, NJ. He’ll be overseeing operations at the restaurant and brewery, while adding a bit of appropriate worldly insight, having grown up in Dublin, Ireland.

Grady explained that the inspiration for the name of the restaurant originated from her belief that everyone has a “second story,” or a passion for something that they love to do.

“As a team, our diverse backgrounds and real world experience make us a true embodiment of the original American spirit of independence, and our decision to open 2nd Story on the very spot where our Founding Fathers sipped beer and paved the way for future generations is no coincidence,” she says.

2nd Story will feature two floors of seating (which, ok, is probably another good reason for the name), each with a bar area and five different dining areas with ample room for more than 200 guests. The brewpub will offer a fresh menu of American cuisine, a full bar with cocktails and wine in addition to the hosue beers being produced on site. In addition, there will be an upstairs fireplace and beer garden, accented with salvaged oak and nostalgic photos of iconic Philadelphia breweries.
