The Steaks are High for 5th Annual Cheesesteak Competition

This year, The Great Philly Cheesesteak Challenge and Cocktail Competition will be hosted by Square 1682 during the 5th annual High Steaks block party on October 12th.

The competition will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. along Sansom Street between 16th and 17th, and will include a variety of cheesesteak artists and cocktail masters.

This year, Kimpton City lead bartender Chauncey Scates (formerly of Stateside and one of Zagat’s 30 Under 30) will oversee the Cocktail portion of the competition. Meanwhile, the Cheesteak Challenge will play out as a competition among Philadelphia chefs who will get creative and do their own unique version of Philadelphia’s most iconic sandwich.

Which chefs, you ask? Lots of them. Competitors will include crews from Will BYOB, Davio’s, Red Owl Tavern, Rex 1516, Barren Hill,  Crow and the Pitcher, Paradiso, Devil’s Den, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, Circles, Tuk Tuk Real and, of course, Square 1682.

Attendees can sample the chefs’ creations while sipping on mini-cocktails from top bartenders, beer from Victory Brewing Co. and samples from local distiller Manatawny Still Works. Soft drinks and water will also be included.

And as an added bonus, Foobooz’s own Art Etchells will be in attendance as one of this year’s guest judges.

Tickets are available online for $40.
