Miss Rachel’s Pantry Opening Its Doors

Miss Rachel’s Pantry, a fur-free and vegan café, opened this morning for breakfast and light lunch. Starting Friday, four-course prix-fixe dinners will be served on weekends at a communal BYOB table for $45 (by reservation only, or for private parties).

Owner Rachel Klein–a personal vegan chef–is calling her dinner operation The Dining Room at Miss Rachel’s Pantry. Dinner menus will change every week and will include two options per course, with one being gluten-free (in addition to being vegan and, one assumes, free of fur). The always-cheerful Klein provided this as a sample menu: “Sweet potato knishes with caramelized onions and crispy sage;  sweet potato latkes with apple sauce;  shiitake mushroom dumpling soup with spicy basil-lemongrass broth;  Cobb salad with romaine, cherry tomatoes, coconut “bacon” and cucumber ranch;  “buttermilk” baked seitan with whipped Yukon gold potatoes, slow-simmered collards and home-style gravy;  grilled, almond-crusted tempeh with mushroom jus, truffled mushroom polenta, chanterelles, pea shoots and micro greens;  and ice cream floats with vegan, gluten-free ice cream.”

Until now, Miss Rachel’s Pantry had been Klein’s cooking and catering headquarters. Live music will sometimes accompany meals. And, for those of you looking to get up there today (before the 3pm closing time), here are the details.
