A Beer Without Gimmick

With Halloween around the corner there will be more than a few pumpkin beer specials in the offering. We’ll be posting about these events but first we have to salute a beer without pretense. A beer that’s happy to just be a beer, a damned good beer, an extra special ale in fact. We’re talking about Yards Extra Special Ale.

When we popped into Grace Tavern the other night, too much of the draft list was dedicated to that big orange excuse to pump beer full of spices but there was also Yards ESA, the hearty amber ale was ordered and admired. Here was a beer that stood on its own, a beer’s beer.

We’re not the only one that’s been admiring Yards ESA, wine guy David McDuff enjoyed one off the hand pump at the Oyster House recently.
