Union Chief: SEPTA Is Provoking Strike

'Either SEPTA wants to provoke a strike or you have slipped and bumped your head,' Willie Brown wrote.

SEPTA’s largest union has been without a contract since midnight last Friday, and negotiations don’t seem to be going so well. The Inquirer‘s Paul Nussbaum yesterday wrote about a letter TWU Local 234 president Willie Brown sent Friday.

“After reading SEPTA’s proposals, I have come to the conclusion that one of two things are happening,” Brown wrote to SEPTA chief labor relations officer Stephanie Deiger. “Either SEPTA wants to provoke a strike or you have slipped and bumped your head.

“Whatever the case may be, your proposal is no good for my members or the riding public.”

The union requested binding arbitration, which SEPTA did not agree to. No further talks are scheduled. Ugh. You just know we’re all going to wake up one morning and SEPTA will have pulled a surprise strike again.
