Happy Birthday N3rd Street … Now Let’s Party

N3rd Street turns one in October, so naturally the tech community will celebrate with beer.

First came Chinatown and the Gayborhood. Then came N3rd Street.

The slice of 3rd Street between Girard and Market Streets in Old City and Northern Liberties has been increasingly adding tech companies and startups — and the city officially awarded it the moniker N3rd Street (a play on the word “nerd”) one year ago. That meant new street signs and increased interest in the tech community by City Hall.

Now, it’s time to do something techies do very well — party.

The N3rd Street Birthday Party will be held on Friday Oct. 2 at Liberty Lands Park on American Street in Northern Liberties. It goes from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and gives people the chance to have a beer and network with local startup leaders. It also features fundraising for the N3rd Street Initiative which aims to create micro-grants for Code for Philly developers to build software tools; build a free “N3rd Street Wifit Network” with Bamboowifi; and support local community centers, parks departments and cleaning efforts and after-school programs.

The afterparty is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at National Mechanics in Old City.

Here’s just some of the companies that call N3rd Street home: Jarvus Innovations; SEER Interactive, Indy Hall, Wildbit and Weblinc.

The N3rd Street Birthday Party is organized by CandiDateJarvus, BamboowifiCode for Philly, the Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association, SeventySix Capital, Old City District and Startup PHL.

BizPhilly will be there (beer in hand), some come say hi!
