Fletcher Cox has been named NFC Defensive Player Of the Week for his dominant performance against the Saints.

Cox had six tackles (one for a loss), three sacks and a pair of forced fumbles Sunday, including this key one in the third quarter that he recovered himself.

This was his first Player of the Week award of his career.

The 24-year-old has 22 tackles (six for a loss), four sacks, eight hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in five games.

“I hope the outside world recognizes the talent he has,” said Billy Davis. “He is a Pro-Bowl caliber [player]. I’ve been around a long time and that’s what they look like. They play the run, they can get disruption in the passing game. Sack numbers come and go but he’s got the skill set.”

Smolenski on USC speculation

Eagles President Don Smolenski commented on the recent speculation surrounding Chip Kelly and the USC job.

“Chip is our head coach and paying no attention to the national banter around this topic,” he said. “His focus is on the Giants. And, next week, it will be on the Panthers. And the week after that Dallas..”

Smolenski offered Birds 24/7 a nearly identical quote back in 2013 when Kelly-to-USC rumors popped up then. The more things change…
