5 Healthy Things to Do in Philly This Weekend
Take advantage of the longer days this weekend.
We’re finally starting to see some spring weather in Philly, and what better way to embrace it than to get outside! Although we did just lose an hour thanks to that darn Daylight Savings Time, it does mean it’s lighter outside for longer. So, this weekend, take advantage of the warmer temps and longer days with a walk along the Schuylkill, a yoga class that ends with a refreshing glass of beer, or any of these other healthy ways to enjoy your weekend.
REAL GIRLS DRINK BEER…AND WORK OUT
Join Erin Chambers from Real Girl Pilates for a butt-kicking workout ($20) and some beers on tap. Pilates & Pours takes place this Saturday at 10:30 a.m., when Chambers will guide you through a one-hour Pilates class (be sure to bring your own mat), followed by your choice of one pour of beer or a flight. Once the class is finished, mingle with your Pilates peers and hang out at Eclipse Brewing.
REIKI & RESTORE
If you’re new to reiki, here’s a quick explainer: It’s a healing therapy that’s supposed to restore energetic alignment and balance. Certified yoga teacher and reiki practitioner Katie Cavuto will lead this group workshop, starting and ending the class in a circle where participants can bond by sharing concerns and experiences. This two-hour class takes place at Mama’s Wellness Joint in Midtown Village on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
YOGA WITH ALL THE BABIES
Parenthood can be a tricky adjustment, to say the least. Through breath and gentle movement, the Baby & Me class helps new parents feel more calm about the whole process. During the one-hour yoga class at Fairmount’s Lumos Yoga & Barre, held this Saturday, your little one will rest on a blanket or in your arms. The class provides the opportunity to engage socially with other parents while also bonding with baby. A single session goes for $25 or you ca purchase three for $60.
SPEND THE AFTERNOON ON THE SCHUYLKILL RIVER TRAIL
Possibly the most well-known trail in the state, the Schuylkill River Trail features multiple options to run or bike. This itinerary from Center City to Manayunk looks especially fun, taking you along the scenic Kelly Drive and past many charming restaurants to stop and grab lunch. Or just make up your own route by utilizing one of the 300 trails #onthecircuit.
DROP AND GIVE ME ZEN
Prepare yourself for the ultimate yoga experience with renowned instructor Darren Rhodes this weekend at Maha Yoga Studio in Rittenhouse Square. This is a two-day event, with Saturday sessions beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; Sunday sessions start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The morning classes will focus on standing poses and backbends and conclude with breathing exercises and meditation. The afternoon will cover a wide variety of forward folds, twists, hip openers, and arm balances. You can purchase tickets for individual sessions or the full weekend if you choose.
