JANUARY 2019 HEALTH EVENTS

Now that all of the holiday stress and running around has subsided, it’s time to focus on you. We believe every month offers the chance for new beginnings and trying new things, and this January is no exception. Whether you’re looking to try different yoga styles at a “yoga buffet” at Mind Over Matter or you’re ready to rethink fitness with a free ice skating workout at Dilworth Park, there’s plenty to do to start your year off right. Read on to learn more about all of the January health events and wellness happenings in and around Philly.

Friday, January 4th

YOGA BUFFET We know that the word “buffet” doesn’t necessarily sound like a healthy activity, but at Mind Over Matter it means sampling some workouts and nutritious food. This hour-long class starts with strengthening yoga sculpt and barre sequences, which are followed by a healthy buffet. Nutritionist Kim Carsia will prepare the meal and give you a few tips on healthy recipes. You can take in the knowledge while sipping on some kombucha and other (slightly) boozier beverages. Get your tickets here. $30, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

FREE COREFITNESS CLASSES CoreFitness is starting the new year by offering free classes to new clients for the first 10 days of January. All indoor and outdoor classes are free. While you can just show up, pre-registration for the class of your choice is appreciated. Register here. Free, various times.

Saturday, January 5th

FREE GROUNDED KIDS + GROUNDED GROWNUPS Have or know a kid over the age of six with a lot of energy to burn? Take them to Three Queens Yoga on Saturday for a free class. Their Yoga Teacher Trainees, who are learning the basics on how to teach yoga to children and teens, will instruct. The class is free, but sign up here to let them know you’re coming as space is limited. Free, 2:30 p.m.

FREE SANSOM STREET DONUT RUN The Center City Philadelphia Runner store is hosting their first Donut Run of 2019 on this Saturday. POUND ROCK OUT WORKOUT If you’re in the market for a workout that’s off the beaten path, this is the event for you. Elite Pole and Fitness is hosting a class that guarantees a full-body workout by using Ripstix (lightly weighted drumsticks designed for exercising). That’s right; instead of just listening to music, you become the music. Sign up here. $20 for non-members, 2 p.m.

POWER OF INTENTION: KEEPING YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION Remember that resolution you made on New Year’s Eve? Well, Priya Hot Yoga has a class designed to help you keep your word and follow through. The two-hour workshop goes beyond just getting a good workout as instructor Brittany Policastro guides you on how to keep the commitments you make to yourself in 2019. All you need to bring is a pen, journal, and an open heart. Sign up here. $25, 1 p.m.
