Celebrate Your Feminine Side at This Early-Morning Dance and Yoga Party

Daybreaker is back with a feminine-powered shindig this Friday at the Foundry.

We know, we know, International Women’s Day was this past week. (Peep our coverage, which featured pictures of some of our favorite female fitness instructors as gawky teens.) But we’re not ready for the lady-centric party to be over yet — and neither is Daybreaker.

That’s right, the group behind the renowned early-morning yoga and dance  gatherings is devoting its monthly Philly bash to the female spirit. But let’s be clear, says Luna Maye, a Philadelphia producer and community catalyst for Daybreaker: “The Future is Feminine” event on March 15th is not exclusively celebrating women. “We were intentional with the word selection there,” Maye says. “We believe that feminine and masculine energies exist within all of us, so it’s more about embodying that feminine energy and spirit. That’s what the world needs right now.”

There will be plenty of that feminine leadership vibe in the house at the Foundry, “the club within a club” on the second floor of the Fillmore Philadelphia. (This Daybreaker event was supposed to be held at the Free Library of Philadelphia, but the venue recently changed.) It’ll come from Amanda Medina, who has a rad Morticia-Addams-if-Morticia-Addams-were-a-yoga-teacher vibe, and DJ Wassup Gina, whose beats vary from fist-pumping EDM to disco-infused rhythms. Yoga runs from 6 to 7 a.m. with dancing from 7 to 9 a.m.; you can choose to attend both portions or just the dance party. Vocalist Mariah del Rio will add some sultry pipes at the end.

If you’re worried about how you’ll look on the dance floor: 1) You’ll be dressed in some kind of futuristic clothing — might we recommend a Zenon-inspired outfit? — so no one will recognize you. 2) Luam, choreographer to talented queens such as Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, has come up with a few Daybreaker steps you can learn ahead of time here. And 3) Who cares? It’ll be early in the morning, and few people look good before 9 a.m. anyway.

Need more convincing to wake up early on a Friday? Daybreaker has partnered with Chooose to reduce the event’s carbon footprint (how is a bit complicated, but the Norwegian company essentially funds projects worldwide that remove CO2 from the air to offset the emissions of corporations and large-scale events), and a dollar from each ticket will go to Girls Who Code, a nonprofit working to close the gender gap in the computer science industry. Because we — with all our forward-thinking, barrier-busting, resolutely swirling feminine energy — will determine what our future looks like.

Tickets for the Daybreaker “Future Is Feminine” event are $15 to $35, but if you use the promo code “BEWELLPHILLY,” you’ll get a discount.
