We may not be that big on guzzling beers or pitchers of margaritas over here at Be Well Philly, but the fact is, the summertime presents all kinds of new opportunities to indulge in adult beverages. Office happy hours suddenly pick up, and Philly’s many beer gardens are the place to meet up with friends.

On Tuesday, May 22, the Office of Councilwoman Reynolds Brown is teaming up with Fit Academy and OnPoint Nutrition to help you get in a sweat session — and to teach you how to make all those summer happy hours just a little bit healthier. This free event will kick off with a signature Fit Academy workout — get ready for all the squats and burpees! — followed by a chat with OnPoint Nutrition on smart summer drinking tips.

Included in the session, OnPoint founder Britney Kennedy says they plan to go over alcoholic beverages by the numbers — including how to calculate calories for those 100-kcal cocktails. They’ll also give tips for easy, healthy swaps to improve your drink of choice.

The workout is scheduled for lunchtime — noon on May 22 — in the City Hall Courtyard. You can come, spend your lunch break sweating, then head back to the office armed with info on how to make mingling with your co-workers later on a little bit lighter. Just be sure to bring your own mat and water — hydration is an important step in healthy drinking, after all!
