The Guided Trail Runs That Will Get You Off Kelly Drive This Summer

Back in 2014, the Fairmount Park Conservancy launched its guided trail-running series through the beautiful — but often overlooked — trails of Belmont Plateau. The runs have continued for the past couple of years, and this year, they’re expanding their trail-running offerings to include guided trail runs through one of our personal favorite trails (and a Best of Philly winner!), Boxers’ Trail. In other words, they’re giving you even MORE opportunities to get off of Kelly Drive (because let’s be honest: Come nice weather, Kelly Drive is basically just a human obstacle course) without fear of getting lost in the woods on your own.

The Boxers’ Trail guided runs will work just like the Conservancy’s Belmont Plateau runs: They’ll be led by either John Goldthorp of Fix Your Run or Alon Abramson of West Philly Runners, and you’ll have your choice of a three or six-mile route. The runs are free for Fairmount Park Conservancy members (a membership will run you $35 for the year) and $10 for non-members.

They have Boxers’ Trail runs scheduled monthly from May (the first run is Saturday, May 21st) through August, plus three Belmont Plateau guided trail runs throughout the summer. So, go! Pound the pavement, er, gravel and dirt, and discover some trails you wouldn’t have ventured to otherwise. You can find out more about the Boxers’ Trail guided runs here and the Belmont Plateau runs here.
