Thanksgiving Fun: 20 Turkey Trots Near Philadelphia

It’s no secret: Everyone’s jeans feel a bit more snug after Thanksgiving dinner. I mean, who can say no to the heaven on a plate that is mac n’ cheese, creamy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and pumpkin pie? But here’s the good news: If you squeeze one of these pre-Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day turkey trots into your schedule, there’s a chance your pants might not feel quite as oh-my-God-I-think-I’ve-lost-circulation-in-my-left-leg tight after Thanksgiving dinner. PRE-THANKSGIVING TURKEY TROTS
Philadelphia Zoo Turkey Trot 5K
When: Sunday, November 16th at 8 a.m.
Where: The Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 West Girard Avenue, Philadelphia.
Start your morning running past lions and tigers and bears at this 5K held at the Philadelphia Zoo. Registration is $30 before November 15th and $35 after, and includes entry to the zoo. You can register here.
CW Henry School’s Turkey Trot
When: Sunday, November 22nd at 8:30 a.m.
Where: 601 Carpenter Lane, Philadelphia.
This turkey trot offers a 5K run or a one-mile walk through the streets of Mount Airy. Registration is $25, and proceeds go toward CW Henry School. You can register here.
Towamencin Turkey Trot 5K Walk and Run
When: Saturday, November 22nd at 9 a.m.
Where: 2225 Bustard Road, Lansdale.
The entire family is welcome to this chip-timed 5K walk and run, dogs and babies in strollers included. And the top male and female winners will each take home a medal and a free turkey. Registration is $25. Find out more and sign up here.
Bordentown Turkey Trot 2014
When: Saturday, November 22nd at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Joseph Lawrence Park, 323 Ward Avenue, Bordentown.
This 5K run/walk starts and finishes at New Jersey’s Joseph Lawrence Park, and all proceeds go to the Foundation for Bordentown Traditions. Registration is $20, and you can sign up here.
THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY TROTS
Fast and Furriest 5K
When: Thursday, November 27th at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Ocean City Music Pier, 825 Boardwalk, Ocean City.
Get ready to feel some serious summer nostalgia: This chip-timed 5K run and walk takes you along New Jersey’s Ocean City boardwalk. Registration is $25, and all proceeds benefit the Ocean City Humane Society. You can sign up here.
Chester County Turkey Trot
When: Thursday, November 27th at 8 a.m.
Where: Downington West High School, 445 Manor Avenue, Downington.
This annual turkey trot includes a 5K race, a one-mile walk and a kids fun run. And as far as prizes go, this race has some good ones: The top three runners in each age group will go home with a homemade pie. Registration is $25 before November 15th and $30 after. You can sign up here.
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Toss Your Turkey 5K
When: Thursday, November 27th at 8:30 a.m.
Where: River Front Park, 101 College Drive, Pottstown.
This chip-timed 5K comes complete with a pre-race turkey toss. Yes, a turkey toss. Registration is $25, and a portion of the proceeds go toward a local homeless shelter. Find out more and sign up here.
Abington YMCA Gobble Wobble
When: Thursday, November 27th at 9 a.m.
Where: Abington YMCA, 1073 Old York Road, Abington.
Folks can choose to run a 5K or walk two miles at this chip-timed turkey trot benefitting the Abington YMCA’s financial assistance program. The cost is $30, and you can register here on on site.
Philadelphia Insurance Companies Turkey Trot
When: Thursday, November 27th at 9 a.m.
Where: Forbidden Trail, Wissahickon Drive and Northwestern Avenue, Chestnut Hill
A five-mile run along the Wissahickon’s beautiful Forbidden Trail sounds like a pretty sweet way to start Thanksgiving Day, doesn’t it? And if you’re not up for a five-mile run, you can opt for a one-mile fun run/walk. Registration is $35 before November 23rd and $40 after, and all proceeds go toward Face to Face. 2014 Action Potential Turkey Trot
When: Thursday, November 27th at 9 a.m.
Where: Garnet Valley High School, 552 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills.
At this Thanksgiving Day race, you can either run a 5K or opt to walk/roll your wheelchair, stroller or walker along a one-mile course. Registration is $31 before November 27th, and $35 on the day of the race. Find out more and sign up here.
Seven Summits 5K Turkey Trot
When: Thursday, November 27th at 8:45 a.m.
Where: Wilson Farm Park, 500 lee Road, Wayne.
This annual turkey trot, in its seventh year, benefits Arcadia University’s Physical Therapy Outreach Program. The cost is $25, and you can sign up here.
25th Annual Bucks County Road Runners Thanksgiving Day 5-Miler
When: Thursday, November 27th at 9 a.m.
Where: Summit Square Shopping Center, Langhorne.
This chip-timed five-mile run takes participants from the Summit Square Shopping Center to Core Creek Park and back. And if five miles sounds like too much, no worries: There’s also a one-mile fun run/walk, too. Registration is $35 and you can sign up here.
Moorestown Turkey Trot
When: Thursday, November 27th at 9:45 a.m.
Where: Moorestown High School, 350 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown.
This low-key 5K takes participants along the Moorestown High School Cross Country Course. If you aren’t up for running three miles Thanksgiving morning, they also offer a one-mile fun run. Registration is $10, and you can sign up here.
Fairmount Park Turkey Trot 5 Mile
When: Thursday, November 27th at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Please Touch Museum, 4231 Concourse Drive, Philadelphia.
This five-mile run, which takes you on a double loop around Memorial Hall, costs $35 before November 15th and $40 after. You can find out more and sign up here.
POST-THANKSGIVING TURKEY TROTS
West Vincent Turkey Trot 5K
When: Friday, November 28th at 10 a.m.
Where: Andrew Evans Park, Route 401 and St. Matthews Road, Chester Springs.
Folks can choose to walk or run at this Chester Springs 5K, and kids have the option of running in a shorter 1K race. Cost is $15. You can find out more and register here.
Cardinal Foley School Turkey Trot
When: Saturday, November 29th at 9 a.m.
Where: 401 Brookline Boulevard, Havertown
You can run or walk off your turkey-day indulgences at this post-turkey day event, which offers a 5K run along Karakung Drive or a one-mile walk through the streets of Havertown. Registration is $24 until November 16th, then it goes up. You can find out more and register here.
Historic Turkey Trot
When: Saturday, November 29th at 9 a.m.
Where: 459 Old York Road, Bethlehem.
This annual 5K run and walk takes participants along the Lehigh River and through Historic Bethlehem. Registration is $35 now, or $40 on the day of the race. Bonus: Your race t-shirt or bib gets you free admission to HBMS museums for the weekend. You can find out more and sign up here.
St. Bernadette Turkey Trot
When: Saturday, November 29th at 9 a.m.
Where: St. Bernadette Church & School, 1015 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill.

Where: Stepping Stone Education Center, 475 Grant Street, Phoenixville.
The name of this race is just perfect, don’t you think? You can opt for a 5K run or one-mile walk at this post-Turkey Day race, which takes runner through the streets of Phoenixville. Cost is $25, and you can register here.
Haddon Township Turkey Trot 5K
When: Saturday, November 29th at 9 a.m.
Where: 120 Haddon Avenue, Westmont.
Run the 5K or join in on the one-mile fun run-walk at this turkey trot, then make your way over to The Pour House for a complimentary post-race party. Cost is $20, and you can register here.
