18 Outdoor Yoga Classes in Philly and the ‘Burbs This Summer

Get your Om on in the sunshine

When summer comes, we can’t wait to take our yoga practice out of the studio and into the sunshine. Lucky for us, instructors in our area are offering over a dozen options this season. Here, 18 opportunities (some are free!) to do yoga al fresco.

IN THE CITY

Peace on the Pier
When: June 2nd through June 30th, 9:30 a.m. on Sundays
Where: Race Street Pier on the Delaware River Waterfront
Why: A free riverfront view with Dhyana Yoga? We’ve found our center.
Cost: FREE
FYI: BYO mat, all levels welcome.

Sky-High Yoga
When: June through September, 10:30 a.m. on Sundays
Where: Narwocki Fitness, 1500 Locust Street.
Why: Face your downward dog toward the city skyline on the sundeck of the 45-story 1500 Locust Apartment Complex.
Cost: $15
FYI: Make sure to sign up online ahead of time.

Urban Yoga Philly
When: June 15th through September 7th, 9 to 10:30 am on Saturdays
Where: The Piazza in Northern Liberties
Why: Because outdoor yoga is the perfect way to kick off your weekend.
Cost: FREE

Yoga in the Garden
When: June 4th through August 6th, 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Where: Morris Arboretum, 110 East Northwestern Avenue
Why: Soak up the garden’s summer scents and the last of the sun’s gentle rays while you practice Vinyasa at sunset.
Cost: $25, cash or check for walk-ins.

Yoga Out on a Limb
When: June 23rd, July 21st and August 4th, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Where: Morris Arboretum, 110 East Northwestern Avenue
Why: Where else can you do Vinyasa on a tree canopy platform suspended 50 feet above the ground?
Cost: Members $20 per session, non-members $25 per session
FYI: BYO mat and towel to accommodate the structure’s surface, class size is limited to 30 students, so arrive early!

IN THE ‘BURBS

Farm Fresh Yoga
When: Now through August 28th, 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays
Where: Maple Acres Farm. 2656 Narcissa Road, Plymouth Meeting
Why: After class, stop by the farm stand to pick up some fresh, local produce for a healthy, post-yoga dinner.
Cost: $10, cash only.

Rooftop Yoga at Tellus360
When: Now through September 28th, 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays
Where: 24 East King Street, Lancaster.
Why: Go green this season on Tellus360’s Green Roof just a block from Lancaster’s Central Market.
Cost: $10 per class, tickets available at store cash register
FYI: Yoga mats provided if you don’t have your own, all experience levels welcome, arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to snag a spot.

Rooftop Yoga at Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting
When: June through August, 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays
Where: Whole Foods Rooftop Cafe, 500 West Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting
Why: Instructor Maura Manzo stretches mind and body on a beautiful rooftop. Talk about feeling whole!
Cost: $5 cash

Summer SOLstice with Sol Yoga Studio at Sutcliffe Park
When: Friday, June 21st from 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Sutcliffe Park, off of Colwell Lane, Conshohocken
Why: Enjoy live music as you complete 108 sun salutations on the first official day of summer.
Cost: FREE

Summer Solstice with Whole Body Yoga
When: Friday, June 21st from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association Headquarters, 12 Morris Road, Ambler
Why: Celebrate the year’s longest day of light with this two-hour session that benefits the great preservation work of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed.
Cost: Suggested donation of $25, cash or check

Summer Yoga with Lululemon
When: Now through August 28th, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays
Where: Radnor Middle School Field, 150 Louella Avenue, Wayne
Why: Refuel after this energizing session by heading into the heart of Wayne, just a five minute walk away, to explore the culinary variety that the Main Line has to offer.
Cost: FREE

Yoga Down on the Farm
When: June 11th through August 27th from 6 to 7 p.m. on select Tuesdays
Where: Sweetwater Farm Bed and Breakfast, 50 Sweetwater Rd, Glen Mills
Why: Your fitness and food fix for the day, all in one location! The outdoor yoga session on the scenic vineyard and farm is followed by a wine and cheese tasting in the farm’s renovated barn.
Cost: $35 (includes 60 minute yoga session and wine and cheese tasting)

Yoga in the Park
When: June 4th through August 1st from 6 to 7 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Where: Narberth Park on the kids’ basketball court, near the playground
Why: Practice your chaturanga just after sunrise, before anyone hits the park.
Cost: $16 for single class, discount for students and seniors.
FYI: Plan to meet in the Yoga Garden if it’s rainy; class packs are available.

Yoga in the Square with Lululemon
When: Now through June 26th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays
Where: Suburban Square Courtyard, 41 St. Georges Road, Ardmore
Why: Pop in to the Lululemon store after class to check out their newest summer gear … and resist the urge to drool.
Cost: FREE

Yoga in the Vineyard: Wine, Body and Soul
When: Now through October, 6 or 7 p.m. on select Thursdays, 11 a.m. on select Sundays
Where: Penns Woods Winery, 124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford
Why: Yoga + food + wine + souvenirs = Namaste!
Cost: $35 (includes 60-minute yoga session, food and wine, souvenir glass, and more)

Yoga on the Trail
When: June through October, 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays
Where: Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Meet at the Barmouth trailhead (Intersection of Levering Mill and Belmont), Bala Cynwyd
Why: Yoga instructors from top studios on the Main Line teach basic poses and breathing techniques on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Unwind AND learn.
Cost: $20, pay in person or online
FYI: Beginner to intermediate level, BYO towel or mat.

IN NEW JERSEY

Stand-up Paddleboard Yoga
When: June 22nd through September 15th, 3 p.m. Tues/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wed/Fri, 1 p.m. Sat/Sun
Where: SUP Yoga Launch Site, 57th Street and the Bay, Avalon
Why: Take your yoga to the water (literally) with this hourlong paddleboard yoga class at the Avalon Kayak Park.
Cost: $35
FYI: You must sign up and pay online prior to arrival; they provide boards, but you can BYO!

Yoga in Nature
When: June through October (weather permitting), 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays
Where: 655 Franklinville Road, Mullica Hill
Why: Practice those poses on a 20-acre horse farm just before sunset. This couldn’t sound more like summer.
Cost: $15
