Broad Street Run Expo Will Move to Convention Center

For the past several years, I’ve made a first-Friday-in-May habit of boarding a school bus in Center City and carting off to the Linc to pick up my Broad Street Run bib. The system has actually worked quite well: The buses are surprisingly efficient, and the errand usually takes me just slightly longer than a typical lunch break.
This year, though, getting to the Expo should be even easier. According to a letter posted on broadstreetrun.com by race director Jim Marino, the Broad Street Run Expo will move to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. In his words:
We are also pleased to announce that the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department has secured the PA Convention Center for the 2014 Blue Cross Broad Street Run Expo. The move to the Convention Center was necessitated with the multi-billion dollar renovations by the Philadelphia Eagles to Lincoln Financial Field during their off season. The race expo previously had been held at Lincoln Financial Field since 2006, and prior to that at the Marine Cruise Terminal at the Navy Yard and Memorial Hall.
Also, as an update to last week’s post, the race has posted info on how to register as a group. (Note: This is different from team registration). As with last year, groups of up to seven runners may enter the lottery together. Geared toward runners who intend to train together, the group-registration option safeguards against your running buddy being picked while you are left out; this is an all-or-nothing registration method.
Groups have the same chance of getting into the race as individuals, so entering as a group will neither hurt nor help your luck. I should also note that you can’t enter as both an individual and a member of a group to increase your chances of getting in; runners who sign up as individuals and as part of a group will have both their entries rejected from the lottery.
As a reminder, the lottery opens at 12:01 on Saturday, February 1st and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 13th. Race organizers say lottery results will be posted on February 18th. They expect an 80 to 85 percent acceptance rate, with capacity set at 40,000 runners.
