Independence Weekend in Historic Philadelphia

Fourth of July BBQ at Sesame Place

Memphis at Walnut Street Theatre
The Tony Award-winning musical Memphis takes to the stage of Walnut Street Theatre, and it's perfect summertime fare. The show tells the story of 1950s underground dance clubs and how one singer was turned into a star. With a score by Bon Jovi's David Bryan, you'll surely be dancing in the aisles as the curtain goes down. Through July 12, various times, $20-85, Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut Street.
Plan-ta-shun at the African American Museum in Philadelphia
Contemporary artist Colin Quashie presents an installation of modern works titled Plan-ta-shun at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. Quashie uses "the language and imagery of marketing and mass media to lampoon racist historical norms and challenge contemporary racial and social constructs." Bitter Homes and Gardens with The Bearded Ladies
The newest offering from the ever-charming Bearded Ladies, Bitter Homes and Gardens, runs in two separate pop-up locations. The first stretch through July 10th is at the PHS Pop-Up Garden at 9th and Wharton. Get ready for singing and dancing florals, country music, and lots and lots of cardboard!
