OL Review: Eagles Try Something New On Offense

During the bye week, Andy Reid said multiple times that he was evaluating everything.

On defense, that meant changing coordinators. But considering Marty Mornhinweg kept play-calling duties and Michael Vick remained the starting quarterback, what would it mean offensively?

That was one of the questions going into Sunday’s game. And while the offense only produced 17 points, Reid and Mornhinweg actually some drastic changes.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: Watkins Hits Mute Button

Philadelphia Eagles right guard Danny Watkins.Citing some negative press he has received lately, Danny Watkins told reporters that he won’t be speaking with them. So, don’t expect the former first-round pick to shed any light on his own play, the offensive line’s struggles, or…anything for a while.

Fortunately, some of his teammates are willing to engage. Recently, Birds 24/7 caught up with a couple of them to get their take on Watkins in Year 2. Much of it, the 27-year-old guard will be happy to know, was positive. Though there were a few critiques.

All-22: Breaking Down the ‘Pathetic’ Final Drive

A day after the loss to the Lions, a  fed-up Andy Reid had some harsh words for his offense.

“The last two drives offensively were pathetic. They were pathetic from a coaching standpoint and they were pathetic from a players’ standpoint,” he said.

OL Review: Eagles Shifting Offensive Philosophy?

When evaluating the state of the Eagles’ offensive line right now, it’s important to manage expectations.

A couple weeks ago, the coaches approached the Cardinals game assuming the offense would be just fine operating as it usually does. They tried little things to help Demetress Bell and Dallas Reynolds, who were making their first starts of the season. But overall, Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg believed this offense could still score points by hitting on big plays down the field in the passing game.

After a 27-6 loss, though, it appears they’ve made some significant changes the past two weeks.
