Sporting a gold sequined cape and a rich, soulful voice, Canadian singer-songwriter Basia Bulat delivered a solid set of folk rock to a sold out Boot & Saddle last Wednesday. Promoting her 2016 release Good Advice, she showed off her talents on keyboard, guitar, autoharp and charango.

With the new album’s material stretching more into the electropop realm, Bulat presented wonderful contrasts in material from past to present. The catchiness of the title song and “La La Lie” played wonderfully with older tracks like “Five, Four” and the set closing, charango-enhanced “It Can’t Be You.” In great spirits and declaring her deep appreciation for Philadelphia, she even stepped into the audience to dance with a fan in the middle of a song.

Twin Limb opened with an eclectic mix of accordion, percussion and sampling magic. The Kentucky trio powered through an impressive set of unique tunes from their debut EP Everything is Possible and Nothing Makes Sense.
