Roots to Bring Erykah Badu, A$AP Rocky, Win Butler to Philly for Roots Picnic

The eighth-annual Roots Picnic, set for May 30th, will bring The Roots, Erykah Badu, A$AP Rocky, DJ Windows 98 (Win Butler) and more to the Festival Pier.

The Roots Picnic has quickly become one of Philly’s great summer concert traditions, a one-day, three-stage festival where the Roots come back to Philly and invite some of the best artists of all genres. Last year, The Roots were the backing band as Snoop Dogg ran through his hits. Biz Markie and Doug E. Fresh showed up. It was great.

This year, The Roots have announced a lineup ?uestlove says is one of the most diverse ever. “I am looking forward to seeing the discovery process,” he tells Billboard, who first reported the lineup. “That is what excites me each year. Seeing someone who bought a ticket for one act, discover the music of an unexpected artist. I’m sure there will be some A$AP Rocky fans that will dig Hiatus Kaiyote or some Weeknd fans that will discover Chronixx and vice versa.”

This year, The Roots will headline, as usual. In the most exciting news of this year’s show, the band will also back Erykah Badu for her set. A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd will perform, and Arcade Fire’s Win Butler (who goes by DJ Windows 98) will do a DJ set.

Also on the lineup: Phantogram, DJ Mustard, Afrika Bambaataa, King Britt and others.

Tickets for the Roots Picnic go on sale this Friday, March 13th. More info should be on the Roots Picnic website later this week.
