A lot of the questions tossed at Michael Vick Friday were about the team’s level of desperation.

With the season, the coaching era and jobs on the line, do the players understand the situation?

“We all understand the situation — hopefully everybody understands the situation. I know I do,” said Vick. “It’s not a situation we planned on being in. But you’ve seen a lot of teams with their backs against the wall and they come out doing everything they need to do in order to succeed. We’ve got to take on that mindset; we’ll find out on Sunday.”

We’re eight games in, so now seems like a good time to hand out some grades. Let’s go position-by-position and start with the offense. The defensive grades will come later today.

Michael Vick has seized control back at the line of scrimmage.

Entering the year, he and Jason Kelce planned to share responsibilities pre-snap so Vick could focus on the other tasks at hand. While Vick had final say, it was the center that was calling out the bulk of the protections. Even when Kelce went down and the unproven Dallas Reynolds stepped in, the set-up stayed in place.

The intended results never came. In fact, instead of Vick feeling more focused in, he actually felt somewhat disengaged.

“Mike, when he’s forced to fix the protections like he was last year, I think he is more in tune to everything,” said Kelce. “That’s one of the things that we ran into problems with at camp was sometimes when you have the center doing a lot of that, the quarterback kind of goes on autopilot. I think that’s why Mike wanted to move back to that. He feels more mentally engaged and he feels like he’s more part of it, he has to focus on each and every play.”

Lurie has granted Reid final say on football matters in the name of stability, but stability is already 30 miles down the road. This baby is about to get shaken up. Reid and the players’ peace-of-mind is secondary to the viability of this franchise moving forward.

Which brings us to the quarterback situation.

Moments after enduring a pounding at the hands of the Saints, Michael Vick was informed of his brother’s Twitter tirade by the media.  He was taken off-guard, he did not look happy and he assured everyone that it would be handled.

“We definitely had a serious heart-to-heart conversation,” said Vick Wednesday. “You’ll never see that again. Trust me.”

As Michael Vick was receiving a pounding from the Saints’ defense Monday night, his brother, Marcus, decided to go on a Twitter rant, suggesting that the Eagles trade their quarterback to a team that could protect him better.

Vick was asked about Marcus’ thoughts after the game.

“You said he Tweeted that during the game?” Vick said, clearly unaware of the stir his brother had caused. “I’m sorry. I’m unaware of that. That’s something that I’m really going to have to address once I leave here. We’re out there fighting as hard as we can, giving it everything we’ve got, and that’s certainly not the case here. I love each and every guy in that locker room. If I could make every play right, I would. I know they would do the same, so that’s certainly not the case.”

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports recently reported that there has been tension between Michael Vick and Eagles assistant coaches.

Today, Vick denied the report.

“That’s absolutely false. Coach [Andy Reid] and I never had that conversation,” Vick said. “Everything we talked about in that room was personal, was man-to-man, but that never came up.”

Before the Eagles held their players-only meeting last week, Andy Reid and Michael Vick had a lengthy sit-down, two team sources told Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports.

The pair cleared the air on a variety of issues, but perhaps the most noteworthy item in the report was that Vick believed some assistant coaches wanted him benched.
