Eagles Wake-Up Call: Will Birds’ Job Attract Candidates?

When Jeffrey Lurie and his circle of trusted advisers decide on a head-coaching target this offseason, chance are, they could have some competition.

While there are still five games to go, we all know these are the final days with Andy Reid. But the Eagles are just one of several teams that could be looking for a new head coach.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, who worked previously as a scout for the Eagles, Ravens and Browns, recently took a look at 11 potential head-coaching jobs that could be open this offseason. He ranked the positions based on personnel, from most attractive to least attractive. Here’s what he came up with.

Foles Preps For Start, Vick Preps For Return

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. The arrow is pointing in the direction of Nick Foles to start this week against the Cowboys. But Michael Vick is beginning preparations for his return.

According to a report from Ed Werder, Vick has been sized for a protective skull cap to wear under his helmet to help safeguard against sustaining another concussion.

Vick has advanced to Phase 4 of the Eagles’ concussion program but has yet to get back to baseline on the imPACT test. He will try again on Wednesday.

Though it sounds like Vick is inching towards a return, expecting him under center Sunday might be a bit much.

From ‘Dynasty’ To ‘Dream Team,’ It Was All Talk

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Michael Vick

If nothing else, Eagles players have stayed on message over the past two seasons. They entered the 2011 campaign  bullish about the assembled talent (along with just about everybody else). And, despite an 11-15 record since, some continue to tout the team’s potency.

As the 3-7 Eagles get set to take on the 2-8 Panthers in a showdown of the two worst teams in the NFC, here is a “best-0f” compilation of quotes that prove confidence is not the issue on this club.

With Vick Improving, Big Decision Looms

Eagles quarterback Michael VickThe news on Michael Vick Saturday was very positive. He is now symptom free and has moved into Phase 3 of the Eagles’ concussion program, where he can resume normal lifting with the strength coaches and take part in more intense workouts. Head trainer Rick Burkholder anticipates that Vick will return to non-contact football-related activities as early as Sunday.

While he still needs to pass the IMPACT test and be cleared by both an independent neurologist and team doctors, it is conceivable that Vick will be healthy enough to play in the near future.

The Eagles — and Vick — must decide on how to proceed from there.

McCoy Feeling Fatigued, Fuzzy; Vick Progressing

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.Running back LeSean McCoy and quarterback Michael Vick have both been officially ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Panthers.

McCoy is still feeling symptoms from a concussion he sustained in the final two minutes of last week’s loss to the Redskins, head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said today.

“He’s got a headache. He’s got periodic dizziness with exertion, so we’re not exercising him. But if he goes up and down steps too fast or tries to pick up his baby, that kind of thing, he gets a little fuzzy,” Burkholder said. “It’s not nearly as bad as it was in Washington, but it’s still there. Very fatigued. He’s got some sleep issues where he sleeps a lot and then he’s awake and then he can’t get back to sleep – that kind of thing. One of the things that he complains about is sensitivity to noise. Just noise in general is bothering him.”
