In the name of suspense (OK, in the name of filling time during the NFL’s quiet period), ESPN is revealing Ron Jaworski‘s quarterback rankings little by little. They started at 32 and will gradually work their way up. Yesterday marked the beginning of that process. And already Vick’s name has appeared. According to Jaws, Vick is the 25th best signal-caller in the league, just one slot ahead of Brandon Weeden. He is in the company of Chad Henne, Kevin Kolb and Jake Locker.
That’s a precipitous fall for the 2010 MVP candidate.
But it shouldn’t come as that great of a shock considering how the last two seasons have gone for the former No. 1 overall pick.
Jeremy Maclin held his third annual football camp Tuesday in West Deptford, N.J.
He was joined by former Missouri teammates and current NFL players Sean Weatherspoon, Danario Alexander and others.
Maclin also had a couple of his current Eagles teammates Jason Avant and Michael Vick stop by.
I asked all three players one simple question: What do you know about Chip Kelly now that you didn’t know when he was first hired as the Eagles’ head coach?
Here are their answers.
When we last heard from Michael Vick, he was walking off the field at the NovaCare Complex following the Eagles’ final mini-camp of the spring.
At the time, Vick admitted it was tough splitting reps and said he hoped Chip Kelly would name a starter before training camp so that he wouldn’t have to answer any more questions about the QB situation.
Today, while making an appearance at Jeremy Maclin’s football camp at RiverWinds Community Center in West Deptford, N.J., Vick said he didn’t expect his comments to create such a stir.
“I was very surprised because I didn’t try to say it in a derogatory way where I felt like Coach should make a decision or there’s pressure on him to make a decision,” Vick said. “I was just asked a question, and I answered it the best way that I could. But Coach is totally involved in our team and what we’ve got going on and what needs to be done. Like I said, we’re all going to sit back and make sure that we do exactly what he asks us to do, regardless of who’s out there on the field.”
When last year began, Jason Kelce was in charge of making the protection calls at the line of scrimmage for the Eagles.
When Kelce went down in Week 2 and Dallas Reynolds took over, he became the new man in charge.
But before the Week 9 matchup against the Saints, Michael Vick had a chat with the coaches and told them he wanted the responsibility back. Andy Reid and company went along with the suggestion.
Now, as the Eagles forge ahead with Chip Kelly, the offense is going back to doing things the way it did at the start of 2012. During the spring, the center was put in charge of setting the protection.
It seems like everyone has an opinion on whether Michael Vick, Nick Foles or rookie Matt Barkley should be the Eagles’ starting quarterback. Even rappers with surprisingly […]
Do recent comments from a couple of the veterans suggest the team is not on board? When will a starting quarterback be named? We address those questions and more in the latest Twitter Mailbag.
We went over the defense yesterday.
Here is the projected depth chart for the Eagles’ offense, based on what we saw during spring practices. Explanations below.
During Chip Kelly’s final media session last week, a reporter posed the following question:
There’s always been talk about whether the option will work in the NFL. You seem to be running quite a bit of it. Is that a fallacy…?
Kelly interrupted. “Is it a fallacy that we run quite a bit of it?” he said. “Yes.”
Here’s the back-story of how Chip Kelly came up with the idea for the fly-swatter-like contraptions to simulate 6-foot-4 defensive linemen during practices.
The Eagles’ three-day minicamp is over, the offseason program is a wrap, and the quarterback picture remains out of focus.
The first-team reps have been split pretty evenly between Michael Vick and Nick Foles since OTAs kicked off a few weeks back, and by the looks of it, the QB competition will continue through training camp.
ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio asked Vick as he was coming off the field Thursday: “Are you cool sharing time with the first team offense?”
“I mean it’s tough,” said Vick, per Paolantonio. “I feel like I have to be a professional and put my commitments and emotions to the side, and just continue to work better. But it’s hard. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t, but that’s just what I have to deal with.”
Is Vick still on board with the quarterback competition? Will DeSean be a distraction? This and more in the latest Twitter Mailbag.
