Managing allergies is more than just annoying—it’s a full-time job. With so many sources of sneezing, sniffling, congestion, headaches, asthma and potential reactions floating in the air months out of the year, it is easy to understand why people who suffer from seasonal allergies are looking for a treatment that makes their life a little easier.

While immunotherapy (allergy shots) can help, the thought of weekly and monthly appointments can start to seem daunting year after year. With Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) you can finally make allergy treatments work into your schedule, no needles necessary!

How it works

Before you’re able to be prescribed SLIT, you’ll need to visit a board-certified allergist, like the team at Allergy & Asthma Specialists, for an allergy skin test to identify which specific allergy (or allergies) you’ll need to be treated for. Once they know exactly which allergens trigger your reactions they’ll create a personalized allergy extract.

In the comfort of your home, that extract of your allergens (pollen, dust, mold or animal dander) is placed under your tongue and held there for about two minutes before you swallow. No waiting in the doctor’s office before, during or after. SLIT is safe and effective, with the most common side effect being just a few minutes of slight itching or tingling in your mouth.

 Am I cured?

Life without allergies isn’t a total fantasy, and SLIT is proof allergists are one step closer to lessening the anxiety of allergy sufferers who feel held back by their reactions.
