Rum: On the River, in Restaurants, and Frozen Solid
Apparently the Delaware River is akin to the clear, blue Caribbean Sea—or so says Rum Bar. On Thursday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m., the tropical watering hole will host Rum on the River, a cane spirits festival at OCTO Waterfront Grille on the Delaware. The debauchery will include tastings of 25 different rum brands (straight or in cocktails), a Mojito Olympics (Fastest Muddle! Infusion Experiments!), and live Samba music. Discounted tickets ($40 regular admission, $65 VIP) are available in advance at the event’s website.
For a less tipsy cane liquor celebration, Rum Bar is preceding the River fest with a Caribbean-inspired dinner and rum pairing on Wednesday, August 18. The Rum Fusion dinner will have two seatings—the 6:00 p.m. seating features 4 courses and 5 cocktails for $50; the 8:30 p.m. seating highlights 5 courses and 6 cocktails for $75. Fare like rum-chili-glazed pork tenderloin will be served at both. Call 215-751-0404 for reservations.
Cuba Libre is getting in on the rum madness on Monday, August 16 with a National Rum Day giveaway. The first 100 people to pop into the from 5:o0 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. will receive a free Rumsicle—yes, that’s a fruit-and-liquor popsicle.
