Police: Money Stolen From St. Martha Church Book Sale

Cops say money raised by a book sale at St. Martha, a Catholic church and school in Far Northeast Philadelphia, was swiped on Tuesday night.

Police say someone stole money from a book sale at a Northeast Philadelphia church, and they want to question a woman seen on surveillance footage.

The church, St. Martha, is a Catholic parish and school on Academy Road in the Far Northeast. Surveillance footage released by police shows a woman entering the vestibule between the school and church buildings just before 8 on Tuesday night.

The woman in the footage is wanted for questioning. Whoever took the money got away with an undisclosed amount of cash; an employee of St. Martha’s called in the theft yesterday.

Police are asking anyone who reognizes the woman in the surveillance footage to contact the Northeast Detective Division at 215-686-3153. Anonymous tips can also be called in to 215.686.8477, texted to 73847 or submitted online. Police say all tips are confidential.
