Tragedy struck at Millersville University in Lancaster County on Sunday when 18-year-old Millersville freshman Karlie Hall of Chadds Ford died in her dorm room. Prosecutors are calling the circumstances around the death “suspicious.”

Campus police arrested her 19-year-old boyfriend Gregorio Orrostieta of Kennett Square on Sunday after they were called to Hall’s dorm room at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Sunday for a reported cardiac arrest. When they arrived, they found Orrostieta kneeling over Hall, attempting to perform CPR.

According to police, Orrostieta had blood on his face and a cut on his forehead. His shirt was ripped, and he had scratches on his chest. There was also blood all over his hands and on his jeans, according to police documents.

Police say that Orrostieta told them that he and Hall had been at a party late on Saturday night and that they got into a fight, with Hall striking him. They made up and returned to her dorm room around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Once there, they began to fight again, and police say that Orrostieta admitted to shoving Hall, causing her to fall and hit her head on a chair. He also admitted to giving her a “back hand,” according to police.

The Lancaster County prosecutor’s office has charged Orrostieta with one count of felony aggravated assault, although additional charges may be filed. Bail was set at $1.5 million, and Orrostieta remains in Lancaster County Jail.

The Lancaster County district attorney declined to comment on the case on Monday morning, explaining that a statement would be released once autopsy results were complete.

Orrostieta graduated from Kennett High School in 2014. Hall graduated from Unionville High School the same year.
