Philly Pride 2014 To Feature The Village People, BETTY, and More

Hundreds of people will pack the streets for the 2014 Philadelphia Pride Parade and Festival, kicking off Sunday, June 8 at noon at 13th and Locust Street in the Gayborhood. Follow the floats to Penn’s Landing where  you can hang out with all the boys of The Village People, singing “YMCA” with other Philadelphians. Known for hits like “Macho Man”, “Go West”, and “Can’t Stop the Music”, The Village People can’t stop the party at this year’s 2014 Philadelphia Pride Parade and Festival.

Philly Pride Presents promises their best lineup in over ten years with additional performances by artists-turn-activists BETTY, an 80’s alternative rock band most recently known for their 2013 EP “Rise” and for their appearances on Showtime’s The L Word. The group promises to “Back It Up” against the panoramic backdrop of the Philadelphia skyline.

Fresh off their latest performance, international boy band Well-Strung proves they’re more than just f-holes and g-strings; their interpretations of Mozart, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga have won wide acclaim. Check out their appearance at the festival to see if first violinist Edmund Bagnell, second violinist Christopher Marchant, cellist Daniel Shevlin, or violist Trevor Wadleigh has the biggest bow.

For those who find girls to be more their liking, Ariana & the Rose‘s sweet, sultry voice will have you wishing she was “In Your Bed,” but since that’s not likely to happen, you can catch her performance at the festival.

YouTube drag queen sensation Wendy Ho, American Idol contestant Akire Erika, and Joan & Melissa’s Lynne Koplitz round out the performances. Led by grand marshals Gloria Casarez, director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs and former executive director of GALAEI (a queer Latin social justice organization), Christian Axavier Lovehall, local trans* activist and organizer of the Philly Trans* March, and local celebrity Miss Philly Gay Pride 2014, Mimi ImFurst, the queer crawl through the Gayborhood to the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is bound to be the best yet.
