Philly D.A.'s Forum on Gayborhood Safety

Local groups and lawmakers are taking action after the unfortunate string of violent incidents happening lately in the Gayborhood. Last weekend PhillyGayCalendar led a self-defense class, and this Tuesday Philly District Attorney Seth Williams invites members of the LGBT community to gather for an open forum about community safety. He'll be joined by the PPD, who will be there to discuss ways to prevent crime and promote safety in our hood. Tuesday, April 1st, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., District Attorney's Office, 3 South Penn Square.

Women's History Month Celebration

Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF)'s Wonder Women initiative culminates its monthlong Women's History Month Celebration with a happy hour at Stir. The evening will highlight four of the groups DVLF has honored over the month for making an impact on Philly LGBTI women, Raices Latino Pride, FAAN Mail, hotpot!, and Philly Dyke March. Wednesday, April 2nd, 6 p.m., Stir Lounge, 1705 Chancellor Street.

I'm a Stranger Here Myself

Multi-talented and multi-awarded entertainer Mark Nadler performs his new solo musical, I'm a Stranger Here Myself, at Prince Music Theater. His latest work has been praised for its emotional richness and personal confrontation of wide-ranging issues. The piece explores artistic life in pre-WWII Germany, where artistic and sexual freedom ran counter-current to emerging anti-gay ethos. Nadler will perform numbers from Weimar-era Germany, including Kurt Weill and screen goddess Marlene Deitrich. We're actually giving away tickets to see the show. Details here. Tangle Arts' Timelines

The Philly Queer Media Activism series is going strong in its second week of performances, panels, film screenings and more. This week, one of the biggies: Tangle Arts' high-flying dance/circus show Timelines. The nine-woman queer circus is a work that "emphasizes female strength and queer visibility" through a "a highly kinetic meditation on female bodies in time." Expect acrobatics, aerial dancers getting tangled in ribbons, contortionists, vaudevillians and more. You know, kind of like a Pink concert but even queerer. Thursday-Friday, April 3-5, 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 6, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., $15-$20, Christ Church Neighborhood House, 20 North American Street.

Wharton 54

Wharton's WGA Social and LGBT student organization Out4 Business are taking over Voyeur to re-create Studio 54. DJs Chazz Rockwell, Ashraf Saheb and Beat Street will play throughout the club while you flit around summoning your inner Liza or Halston. Leave that white stuff at home, though.
