Two Drexel Students Deliver Drug Paraphernalia Via GoPuff App

They've got your munchies covered, too.

It’s 2 a.m., you just got home from the bar, and you really want to smoke some pot. You’ve got the drugs but nothing to smoke them in. What do you do?

Sure, you could carve a pipe out of an apple or build a gravity bong out of a milk carton. Or you can just download the GoPuff app, created by Drexel University junior business majors Rafael Illishayev and Yakir Gola, both 21.

GoPuff, which debuted in November, is a free app for iPhone and Android phones that connects drug users with drug paraphernalia. Of course, that’s not exactly how GoPuff is advertised.

“Before we launched we wanted to make sure we were within the confines of the law, so we hired a strong legal team to back us to make the dream a reality,” explains Ilishayev, who claims 25,000 GoPuff users between the app and the website. GoPuff simply calls itself “your one-stop puff-shop.”

Here’s how the GoPuff app works. You enter your address and choose from a wide range of pot- (or tobacco-) smoking equipment that includes hookahs, vaporizers, grinders, rolling machines and trays, and more than a dozen different types of rolling papers. And, voila, your order should show up within about 30 minutes, assuming your are in the delivery zone, which includes Center City, South Philadelphia and most Philadelphia college campuses. (GoPuff should be up and running in Boston in April.) There are 14 drivers working out of a GoPuff warehouse near 12th and Vine streets.

GoPuff will also supply you with condoms, Clear Eyes drops, and whatever junk food you might crave. Their vast “Munchies” selection includes everything from Twizzlers to Nutella to Slim Jims. “Of the Munchies, the Chewy Chips Ahoy, Haribo Sour S’ghetti, and the Snyder’s Honey Mustard and Onion pretzels are our must popular sellers,” says Ilishayev. “We release an average of 10 new munchies every month.”

The delivery fee is just $1.95, and the service is available seven days a week between the hours of noon and, yep, 4:20 a.m. The coverage area includes all of Center City and South Philadelphia and all of the college campuses. “What we don’t deliver to is North Philly,” said a GoPuff representative, who answered the 855-400-PUFF telephone line on Monday afternoon. (You can also place on-demand delivery orders via phone.) “We basically deliver everywhere but we took off the bad areas.”

And for those of you who have privacy concerns about having smoking devices delivered to your doorstep, GoPuff accepts cash for orders under $100. Enjoy.
