Armed Standoff with Temple Student Ends Peacefully

One shot was fired inside the home, but not at police.

A day of negotiation with a 26-year-old Temple University student that began early Sunday ended last night at around 2:16 a.m. after the student surrendered peacefully, Philly.com reports.

Police believed the student, a sophomore who had barricaded  himself in an apartment off campus, to be suicidal. The Daily News had previously reported Philadelphia Police Chief Joe Sullivan as describing him as him as having “a history of mental-health and substance-abuse problems.” A SWAT team was deployed to warn area neighbors about the situation. NBC10 reported Sullivan saying that one shot had been discharged inside the man’s home, but was not directed as police.
