Supreme Court Overturns Death Sentence for Philly Cop Killer

Mumia Abu-Jamal will get a new sentencing hearing

Mumia Abu-Jamal will get another sentencing hearing after the Supreme Court ruled that the death sentence would be unconstitutionally imposed in his case. Abu-Jamal was a member of the Black Panther Party and was convicted in 1982 for killing a Philadelphia Police Officer. His attorneys argued that the jury instructions were confusing and that the sentencing form given to the jurors was leading. Abu-Jamal will automatically be sentenced to life without parole unless the prosecutors decide to re-seek the death penalty. [CNN]
