The Check-Up: Babies Everywhere!

Hurricane babies, earthquake babies—plus the state of PA's fluoridated water, for good measure—in today's health headlines

Hospitals up and down the East Coast are buzzing about an apparent Hurricane Irene baby boom, with many clocking double-digit deliveries over the weekend. News outlets are also carrying (harrowing?) stories about babies who were born during last week’s earthquake. Of course, all the baby talk got me thinking about one of my favorite commercials of all time (watch it here when you get a chance), but unfortunately experts say there’s no scientific basis to explain the uptick in deliveries, despite wives’ tales that point to drops in barometric pressure.

Get all the details here, plus the skinny on PA’s efforts (or lack thereof) to fluoridate drinking water supplies.
