SEPTA Announces Movement on the Fare Card Front

Report from the smart card working group sheds some light on potential system

It looks like SEPTA is slowly inching closer to implementing a smart card fare system for regional rails and subways. A report released yesterday—and set to be discussed during a press conference today—explains that a round-trip fare system—in which coming into the city is free, but fares are doubled going out—seems to have the most support amongst those involved. A two-way fare system would be more convenient for one-way travelers and would reduce fare evasion, but would cost a little extra. Because when you’re nearly a decade and a half late to party, you should definitely half-ass the appetizer you’re bringing. [PlanPhilly]
