The Good Life: Happenings: Driven Design

Picks for the 11-day DesignPhiladelphia Festival.

Of the 130-plus events in this month’s 11-day DesignPhiladelphia festival, we are quite thrilled about breaking glass in the monster light-up Glassphemy installation, walking among Aurora Robson’s fantastical plastic-bottle sculptures at the Skybox, patting the backs of 75 local designers at the Philly Works exhibit in Myerson Hall,
and checking out graffiti art at South Broad Street’s transformed “design lot.” Still, we made sure that marked first on our October calendar was Driven Design. Conceived by Minima co-owner Michael Schmick, this one-day outdoor display of Pininfarina-designed Alfa Romeos and Bertone-conceived Fiats (like this 1967 Dino Coupe) and Vignale-created Jensen Interceptors will be, says Schmick, “a very different type of car show, one that’s more like a curated design exhibit in which each car is a rolling sculpture.”

 DesignPhiladelphia, October 7th-17th; Driven Design, 200-400 Arch Street, October 9th, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; designphiladelphia.org.
