Pulse: Pursuits: 60-Second Critic: “Committed”

It’s not usually the case that Homeland Security throws ideas in a writer’s lap. But if Frenchtown’s Liz Gilbert, of mega-seller Eat, Pray, Love fame, wanted to live with “Felipe,” the Brazilian lover who ended her post-divorce funk in EPL, she would have to marry him. No writer is more charming than Gilbert in mining her hopes and fears on the path to well-being, and in Committed, she traipses all over the history of marriage worrying herself to the altar. Occasionally, you’ll scream, “Stop talking and get hitched, already!,” but mostly, Committed is another tour-de-Liz from the heart of a woman who demands to get it all right.
