LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: Dallas Shaw Designs

We’ve got our eye on the whimsical sketches by this local fashionista

Dallas Shaw is a self-proclaimed “girly-girl” — and it shows. The Scranton native, now a Wilmington-based artist, started drawing when she was 4, and today, her colorful sketches — each one of which are inspired by fashion in some way — have appeared in oodles of blogs (Daily Candy, Design Sponge) and magazines (Real Living, Brides), and are currently gracing the American Eagle flagship store in Times Square. (She’s even been commissioned to create custom designs for a few celebs.) And if we had it our way, we’d have one hanging right here above our desk.

Luckily for us, that’s pretty easy to get. Her colored pencil, watercolor and acrylic sketches (which are all inspired by designer collections, runway shows, fashion mag spreads, and specific favorite outfits or vintage pieces) go fast on her etsy site — but she’s happy to create a customized sketch based on your favorite dress, piece of jewelry or other personal inspiration, and she can even sketch a client’s likeness into a work of art. Customized designs usually run around $200, and she works quickly, only needing about two weeks notice if you’re looking to give her work as a gift. She says that the more specific the client is about their vision for the piece the better. “I create for buyers who are very similar to me,” she says: “They’re shoppers.”
