Highlight: Ticket Giveaway: Dr. John
New Orleans’ legendary, psychedelic bluesman swaggers into Glenside this weekend with his swampy, funky, mystical sounds for a slightly early Mardi Gras celebration — the way that only a guy named after a 19th-century voodoo priest can do it. Dr. John made a name for himself with his 1973 breakthrough hit, “Right Place, Wrong Time,” and today has more than a dozen original recordings to his name. He’s worked with the Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Van Morrison, Harry Connick Jr., and, er, is the voice of the Popeyes chicken commercials.
If you want to see him this weekend at the Keswick — with Texan troubadour Michelle Shocked — drop me a line to enter to win a pair of tickets. The winner will be announced on Friday morning on my new blog, IMPRESARIO.
WXPN Welcomes: Dr. John, Friday, Feb 1st at 8:00 p.m., $18.75 and $37.50. For tickets, contact Keswick Theatre, 291 Keswick Ave., Glenside, 215-572-7650, keswicktheatre.com
