Ever wished you could drink during class? Well, now you can brush up on your Philly history while tipping back a few cold ones. Once Upon A Nation’s weekly Tippler’s Tour is not for the abstinent of heart. You’ll learn more about the “Spirit of ‘76” and enjoy traditional lagers that Sam Adams himself might have enjoyed (or John Adams, for that matter).

The two-hour tour makes stops at Society Hill Hotel Restaurant, the Plough & the Stars, Old Original Bookbinders and the historical City Tavern. At each site, a Colonial Bar Keep shares historical facts about 18th-century drinking and will have you and your friends belting out traditional songs and toasts. Between all the frothy mugs of beer, make sure your guide remembers to teach you some of Benjamin Franklin's favorite drinking vocabulary — including “nimptopsical” and “tipsicum grave,” two words Franklin used for someone who’s had a few too many.
