Baseball, Burgers and Beer: It’s Battle of the Burger Time

Battle of the Burger is finally coming down to its ultimate match-up, and the winner will be decided on Wednesday, August 24, at Citizens Bank Park in a big event that will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be burgers. There will be beer. And in the end, those who show up will decide who has the best burger in Philadelphia.

This time around, the finalists are Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe and The Union Tap. Maggie’s is doing a St. Louis Burger (a half-pound of Angus beef, seasoned with dry rub, topped with bacon, covered in a Budweiser-infused cheddar cheese sauce and served on a brioche bun with BBQ ranch sauce), and Union Tap is slinging The Pig Mac (which is fried pulled pork mac & cheese served on top of a grilled burger seasoned with homemade barbecue dry rub, melted pepper jack cheese, bacon and a Jameson-infused barbecue sauce). Both have advanced through the competition to make it here, to the finals, and are now vying to be the crowd favorite.

So what else will be happening while the burgers are grilling? Well, Budweiser is running a beer garden. There’ll be ballpark snacks and a french fry bar (three of the happiest words in the English language) where you can load up on fries and toppings. The Budweiser clydesdales will be there. And you’ll also have on-field access, which means you can check out the Phillies dugout and run the bases, if that’s your kind of thing.

Tickets will run you $25. They’re on sale right now. But the big event is coming up, so if you’re looking for somewhere to eat burgers and drink beer on a Wednesday night with a few hundred friends, I’d get yours now.
