This Weekend Kicks Butt

This is a weekend in January? The dead zone weekend before the Super  Bowl to be exact. And yet there’s tons to do.

Friday

Personally we’re heading to Tria Fermentation School for their Strong & Soul Warming beer class. That’s sold out but instructor Lew Bryson will be sharing some of his favorite big beers at Tria Washington Square West from 5 to 6. No reservations are necessary and there will be special prices from 4 to 7 pm.

And what’s this we hear? “4 weeks out 4ever” is finally upon us? Word on the street has tonight being the opening of Slate on 21st Street between Sansom and Chestnut.

Saturday

We’ve got two weeks of Restaurant Week staring at us and hopefully you’ve used our guide to pick up reservations to at least one BYO. Now head to Moore Brothers to pick up wine a perfectly matching wine during their Post Holiday Sale.

It’s Belgium Comes to West Chester where they’ll have 22 Belgian style beers made in 22 different locations that are all within a 30 mile radius. We wonder if there’s anywhere outside of Belgium that can make that claim. Hell, we wonder if there’s anywhere in Belgium that can claim that.

Play both sides of the Philadelphia Brewing and Yards rivalries as you enjoy cheese. PBC will have Cabot cheese to taste in the brewery’s tasting room from 12 to 2. The Institute will have Yards beer along with bourbon and cheese from 4 to 9.

Sunday

Sunday doesn’t slow down, even a little. South Philadelphia Taproom is hosting a beef and beer at 3pm. Expect firkings plus slow roasted sirloin and delicious short rib tacos.

And then as we may have mentioned once or twice, it’s the start of the Center City District’s Restaurant Week.
