New Ownership At Zocalo

We’ve always liked the concept of Zocalo better than any meal we’ve had there. But maybe that will change as the West Philadelphia Mexican restaurant with the great outdoor patio has new owners. Owner and Executive Chef Gregory Russell along with his wife Mary are concentrating on bringing authentic dishes to the restaurant.

They also have a Recession Guide worthy happy hour of 25% off house margaritas, sangrias and selected beers and 25% off all appetizers 4:30-6:30pm nightly.

Some menu highlights after the jump.

Tres Salsas: fresh pico de gallo, smooth salsa Morelia and Zocalo’s award winning guacamole served with house fried corn tortilla chips ($12)

Empanandas: two corn masa turnovers filled with your choice of ground beef picadillo, seasoned crab and shrimp or herbed cream and goat cheeses flash fried golden brown, drizzled with crema and sprinkled with queso fresco ($9.50)

Chorizo con Aceitunas: spicy chorizo slices sautéed with fresh tomato, green olives, onion, cilantro, and white wine accompanied by flour tortillas ($9)

Cochinita Pibil: shredded pork, slow simmered in an achiote, orange and vinegar reduction then topped with lime-oregano marinated onions and served with red rice, corn tortillas and fried plantains ($19)
