His team in a free-fall and his fate sealed, Andy Reid was asked if there was any scenario in which he would step down as head coach of the Eagles this season.
“I’m standing in front of the team and telling them, ‘These are the things we need to do, one of which is to continue to battle. And so I think that would be a cop-out,” said Reid. “That’s not how I see things. That’s not the way I’m wired. We’re going to keep battling and do it as a team. I’m not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other.”

Here’s a look at snap counts for the Eagles during their Week 11 loss to the Redskins. We’ll go position-by-position.
Over the years, Andy Reid has often said it’s his responsibility to put players in positions to succeed.
The response generally elicits an eye-roll from fans and reporters alike.
But perhaps there is actually something to it. Or more accurately, perhaps a major reason why the Eagles have struggled to an 11-15 record in their last 26 games is because they have failed to acknowledge the limitations of some of their players. In a few key areas, Reid, Howie Roseman and company have wrongly assessed what players are capable of.
Here’s the latest coaching buzz around the NFL, focusing on candidates who could be plucked from the college ranks, such as Oregon’s Chip Kelly, Stanford’s David Shaw and Penn State’s Bill O’Brien.
Mike Shanahan caught some flak for his comments following Washington’s loss to the Panthers two weeks ago where it sounded like he was conceding the season.
“Now you’re playing to see who obviously is going to be on your football team for years to come,” Shanahan said. “Now we get a chance to evaluate players and see where we’re at.”
You never want your coach to sound like he has thrown in the towel with seven games to play, but it’s hard to totally dismiss Shanahan’s mindset. His team just fell to the lowly Panthers, dropping them 3-6. He has a promising rookie quarterback and a grouping around him that obviously isn’t getting the job done collectively. So you use the remaining games to decipher which individuals fit with your vision moving forward.
The Eagles, also at 3-6, will be doing much of the same thing.
