Report: Eagles ‘Intrigued’ By Olympian Demps

Jeff Demps was part of USA’s 4×100-meter relay team, which won a silver medal at the London Olympics.

Now, he’s ready to take a shot at the NFL. And according to a report, the Eagles are “intrigued” with the possibility of adding him.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: What’s the No. 1 Concern?

Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Howard MuddBefore training camp started, my No. 1 concern for the Eagles was simple: Would the team’s plan at backup quarterback be good enough?

But the truth is, we won’t know the answer to that question unless (until?) Michael Vick gets injured and Mike Kafka (or perhaps Nick Foles) has to enter a regular-season game.

Now that camp’s over, though, a new concern has emerged: Will Demetress Bell be ready to go in Week 1 vs. the Browns?

Eagles Release New Depth Chart

The Eagles released a new depth chart today, in advance of Monday’s preseason game against the Patriots. Here are some notes on where players, including left tackle Demetress Bell, are listed.

Vegas Puts Vick Among Elite

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael VickYou won’t hear many conversations where Michael Vick is mentioned in the same breath as Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady. According to Vegas, though, Vick is among the favorites to win the MVP award in 2012.

Jarrett, Through the Eyes Of O.J. Atogwe

It is difficult to get a read on Jaiquawn Jarrett. He says little and reveals less. You would have to imagine, though, that he’s going through it right now. To fall from a second-round pick to a question mark for the 53-man roster, in the town you played your college ball in, has to shake you to a certain extent.

O.J. Atogwe has his own issues to deal with. The eight-year veteran is trying to digest a new system and adapt to a new environment in the hopes of solidifying a niche on this Eagles team. But he has at least been around the block enough to know that he can play in this league. It is the type of crutch that the Temple product could really use right about now.

“I think all players go through that cycle of, ‘Am I good enough to play?’ And once you realize you are, ‘O.K., why am I good enough to play?'” said Atogwe. “And once that begins to set in, that’s when you start to maximize your potential and start to make a name for yourself or solidify yourself in this league.”

Five Eagles Numbers That Matter

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Juan CastilloFrom the defense’s tackling to DeSean Jackson’s drops to Brent Celek’s production, here are five Eagles numbers that matter.

Reid Roundup: On Nnamdi, Plans For Patriots

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy ReidAndy Reid met with reporters for the final time here at training camp. He offered an update on Nnamdi Asomugha, and layed out his plan for the upcoming preseason game against the Patriots.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: Saying Goodbye To Lehigh

An emotionally challenging training camp is mercifully coming to a close. Nnamdi Asomugha is being tested for a concussion, while another Eagles corner disputes claims that he is guilty of a dirty hit.

Practice Observations: Fletcher Cox Can’t Hide

Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher CoxWhen you’re 6-foot-4 and weigh 298 pounds, it’s not easy to hide.

So while Fletcher Cox did his best to sneak into the Varsity House after this afternoon’s practice, the Eagles first-round pick ended up having to stop to answer a few questions.

“I almost got away,” he said.

Eagles: Asomugha Showing No Concussion Symptoms

A scary scene unfolded on the fields of Lehigh Monday afternoon when a mid-air collission with Nate Allen left Nnamdi Asomugha face down on the ground for several minutes.

The Eagles said after practice that Asomugha has a lip laceration and sore neck. He’s being evaluated for a concussion.

Derek Landri, Camp Bully

As practice was winding down Sunday afternoon, Clay Harbor caught a shovel pass in the red zone and rumbled in for the touchdown as Landri tried to strip the ball late. The outcome of the play already determined, Harbor took umbrage with the defensive tackle’s aggression and started what he thought would be a typical shove-and-separate training camp tussle. But Landri had other ideas.

The 6-2, 290-pounder threw what looked like an uppercut punch before proceeding to rip the helmet off Harbor’s head. With the situation escalating Harbor zipped out of the lion’s den before chucking the ball at Landri.

“It’s competition. I’m just trying to finish the play, trying to strip him. Sometimes you can’t tell where you’re at on the field,” said Landri. “He didn’t like it, turned around and tried to swing. I didn’t like that, so I retaliated.”

Mornhinweg: Vick’s Pocket Presence Will Improve

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael VickMarty Mornhinweg spent about 20 minutes this morning talking about the Eagles’ offense, and specifically, the team’s quarterback situation.

Michael Vick was on the field for just six snaps Thursday night against the Steelers – five of them pass plays. He was sacked once and injured his thumb when he slammed it against Jason Kelce’s helmet.

The offense went three-and-out twice.

“That was one of the things that I was disappointed in was our precision,” Mornhinweg said. “You saw the plays that were called were precision-type plays, and although we didn’t have many opportunities, several times it wasn’t there.”

Finding a Role For Harbor

Philadelphia Eagles TE Clay Harbor.About an hour after many of the other Eagles players had headed inside, tight end Clay Harbor finally strolled off the field at Lehigh.

He had finished the special-teams portion of practice and went through his usual routine afterwards.

“Get at least 50 catches in,” Harbor said. “I try to walk through some of the routes I know I’m going to see in the later practice. Just get used to catching the ball coming out of those breaks. It really helps a lot. Building habits, seeing the same ball over and over again, it just becomes second nature and you don’t even think about it anymore.”

Rodgers-Cromartie: It was a clean hit

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie didn’t have a lot of time after signing autographs post-practice this morning, but he stopped quickly to answer a few questions about his hit on Byron Leftwich Thursday night.
