We’ve discussed the Eagles’ first-round options quite a bit in this space.
But there’s plenty of talent to be found on Friday and Saturday too. The Birds currently have a pair of Day 2 picks: Nos. 35 (second round) and 67 (third round). They could acquire more if they trade down in the first round.
So here’s a list of 15 names to know. These are potential Round 2 or Round 3 options. Obviously, there’s plenty of guess-work involved since we don’t know who’s going to go in the first round, so consider this a starting point. I’m sure you all have names that I left off, so feel free to chime in with those in the comments section (as if you need any encouragement!).
With the draft just two days away, Star Lotulelei, Lane Johnson and Geno Smith are among the names being mocked to the Eagles at the No. 4 pick.
Eric Fisher has visited five NFL teams during the pre-draft process, including the Eagles. The 6-7, 306-pound Central Michigan product told PFT that he made trips to Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Detroit, Cleveland and Carolina.
Some believe he will be the Eagles’ pick at 4. Others don’t think he will last that long. What does Fisher think?
Three Eagles draft-related numbers that matter, including notes on Star Lotulelei, Geno Smith and this year’s cornerback class.
Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson is the favorite to be selected fourth overall, according to Bovada. The odds are 3/2 that he will be the pick. Star Lotulelei (7/4), Dion Jordan (2/1) and Chance Warmack (9/1) are the next best bets.
Vegas anticipates that Luke Joeckel will go first to the Chiefs. Eric Fisher (1/2) is the clear favorite to be taken at No. 2. For the third pick, Bovada pits Sharrif Floyd (1/10) against the field (11/2).
Some other odds of note:
Much has been written about the Eagles and their plans for the draft, which all of a sudden is right on our doorstep. We have heard hundreds of opinions. But at the end of the day, it is the opinions of the key decision-makers inside the NovaCare walls that matter.
Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly and Jeffrey Lurie are in no hurry to divulge their plans, of course. It does them no good. Misdirection gets them farther than truth-telling this time of year. But if we sift through what has been said over the weeks leading up to the draft, maybe we can see the overall picture a little more clearly.
A look at how far Geno Smith could potentially fall, Greg Cosell’s mock draft and notes on potential second-round targets for the Eagles.
Fletcher Cox has learned quickly to get used to change.
He’s played 15 games as a pro and is already on his third defensive line coach, third defensive coordinator and second head coach.
Cox is surrounded by several new teammates as well.
“It’s different,” he said during last week’s mini-camp. “The first day I came back, no Cullen [Jenkins], no Darryl Tapp, no Mike P. [Patterson], none of those guys. So it felt kind of weird, but you’ve got to understand this is a business and things happen.”
From Darrelle Revis to EJ Manuel to Matt Scott, here’s the latest Eagles-related draft buzz.
Mel Kiper and many of his colleagues had a good feel for what players would be plucked early last year. This season? All over the place.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock recently released his list of the top-100 prospects in the draft. Here are a few Eagles-related nuggets from his rankings.
Last week, we looked at five teams that could be interested in trading up in the first round of next week’s draft.
But it looks like we should add one more to the mix: the Atlanta Falcons.
Quarterback EJ Manuel is doing a weekly diary here on Birds 24/7 as we count down to the draft. In this installment he writes about his visit to Philadelphia, and his emotions with the draft less than a week away.
Casey Matthews cut off his locks and is sporting a fresh new look. Time to change things up, he said.
That has pretty much been the mantra of the Eagles this offseason. The organization — the city — is dizzy with all the alterations Chip Kelly is making. What is foreign to most, though, feels quite familiar to the former Duck linebacker.
The 2013 schedule has been released, and it features just a pair of prime-time games for the Eagles.
The Birds will open the season with a Monday night matchup in D.C. against the Redskins on Sept.9. And Andy Reid comes to town in Week 3 for a Thursday night tilt against the Chiefs on Sept. 19.
The Eagles’ remaining 14 games are on Sunday, and 12 of those 14 are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
The Birds start the season with three games in 11 days, and they don’t get the bye until Week 12.
Below is the breakdown (at signifies road games).
