Which veterans are on the bubble? And will Michael Vick stay on the team as a backup? Here’s what they’re saying this week about the Eagles.
Training camp moving to Philly is pretty much a good thing for me. I live 15 minutes from the complex. Gone are the hour-and-a-half commutes. No more battling traffic on 309. The days are shorter and I’ll have fewer opportunities to jam fast food down my gullet on the ride home. My wife is psyched because in theory (in theory) I should be able to hold up my end of the bargain on the home front a bit better.
Lots of positives. But a tradition is ending and with training camp around the corner, I’m getting a little sentimental about an era gone by. So,I figured I’d list the five things I’ll miss the most about training camp at Lehigh.
The Eagles have the worst odds of winning the NFC East in 2013, but Vegas sees a tight race.

In exactly two weeks, the rookies will report to NovaCare to kick off Eagles training camp. July 22 is the report date, then they’ll practice for each of the next two days before the vets show up on the 25th.
With the rooks up first, let’s take a look at where the 2013 draft picks stand heading into camp.
“Few coaches think Kelly will succeed,” according to one national writer.
Your favorite former cornerback tandem has been in the news lately. Nnamdi Asomugha for marrying actress Kerry Washington. (God bless him.) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for acting like Denver was the first coaching staff to ever point out his flaws.
It’s still hard to fathom how a duo with so much talent and four Pro Bowls between them struggled as much as they did while in Philadelphia. After two disappointing seasons both darted west — Asomugha to the Niners and DRC to the Broncos.
Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams are the favorites to fill their spots. They have zero combined Pro Bowl appearances. Where Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie were both taken in the first round of their respective drafts, Fletcher was chosen in the third round and Williams the seventh. In terms of stature, the talent coming in does not match the talent going out.
But we’ve seen how far stature gets you in this league.
NFL.com has been running a series where they go team-by-team and come up with the most underrated and overrated players in each franchise’s history. On Wednesday, they rolled out their choices for the Eagles.
A few highlights:
With personnel uncertainties abound and a massive overhaul underway, it’s questionable whether this defense can hold its own in a 16-round bout in 2013. But based on the histories of Chip Kelly and Billy Davis, if the ‘D’ goes down it will go down swinging.
“In terms of what we want to be, we’re going to be an attacking style defense. It’s going to be a group of people who dictates the tempo of the game,” said Kelly.
“I think it’s hopefully going to be a defense that creates a lot of turnovers and gets the ball back to our offense so we can be productive on our offensive side of the ball.”
That’s exactly what Kelly’s defense did for him at Oregon.
In the name of suspense (OK, in the name of filling time during the NFL’s quiet period), ESPN is revealing Ron Jaworski‘s quarterback rankings little by little. They started at 32 and will gradually work their way up. Yesterday marked the beginning of that process. And already Vick’s name has appeared. According to Jaws, Vick is the 25th best signal-caller in the league, just one slot ahead of Brandon Weeden. He is in the company of Chad Henne, Kevin Kolb and Jake Locker.
That’s a precipitous fall for the 2010 MVP candidate.
But it shouldn’t come as that great of a shock considering how the last two seasons have gone for the former No. 1 overall pick.
What kind of impact will Chip Kelly’s blazing-fast tempo have on the offensive linemen over a 16-game season? And is this defense in for a rocky year? Here’s what they’re saying about the Eagles.
The leap from college to the pros is not an easy one for a football coach, especially when that coach enters the show in a crazed east-coast football town like Philly. Lots of stumbling blocks, and plenty of people to point out the instant you get tripped up on one.
Fortunately for Chip Kelly, he has a connection to a man who knows exactly what that ride is like, and how to properly maneuver.
Matt Barkley spent last week in Ohio at the NFL’s Rookie Symposium with the rest of the Eagles’ first-year players.
With his remaining time off, he’ll be getting married before returning to Philadelphia on July 22 when rookies report for training camp.
During the spring, Barkley’s reps came with the third team, but he drew praise from Chip Kelly for his work ethic and ability to pick up the offense.
And Barkley continues to be a popular subject of discussion nationally.
Who is the most indispensable player on the Eagles’ roster? LeSean McCoy? Jason Peters? Fletcher Cox? We take a look.
